Error in -The Sims-, help please!

Windows NT, RivaTNT, stable system + The Sims =

...a message stating that either directx is not installed or that service pack 3 is not (available)...

I have installed the direct x that comes with the sims, and I have installed the latest version of the service pack, 6a. So what am, I missing? Does this message go away if I change to 2000?

NT4 only supports DX3.0a which might not be enough to run the Sims. Win2K will not have such problem.
