Error in DVDshrink 3.1

Im starting to make backup copies of my entire dvd collection (177 dvd movies) and after doing about 63 of them so far, I have stumbled upon one movie (Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones) that gives an error msg during the initial scanning of the movie layout.

Error msg:

DVD shrink 3.1 encountered an error and connot continue
Failed to read File H:\
Incorrect Function


Ive never seen this msg before and it keeps happening when doing the first scan part of the dvd. Is there something im doing wrong?

Did you try "unlocking" the DVD with your software player (ie, WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc.) before starting DVDshrink?

pfff... Everyone on the dvdrhelp.com video forums will say the same thing: use DVD Decrypter. All the ripping guides recommend the same thing. It has better error correction, and is more resilient (read: stubborn) in trying to get allthe sectors correctly).

Ripping with DVDShrink is like using Windows Media Player for MP3s... you can do it, but why bother, when Winamp and others are so much better?
 
I've backed up about a hundred DVD's with shrink perfectly. For me, it does a great job. No need to use Decrypter.
 
I tried it, looks like a nice program.. but with this starr wars dvd it still gives me problems error in sector so and so then hangs up at about 57% into it.

As far as the overall decrypter program, it looks really nice.. i think ill start using this over shrink for the ripping part. Thx for the recommendation!
 
hmmm... do something: look at the disc straight from the edge: is it slightly concave or convex? I once had a problem with a bent disc, and it was impossible to rip. Even one millimetre is enough to give permanent errors.
 
I looked at the outter edge and sure enough, the outer rim/edge is slightly curved off. I compared it to another dvd and the other were all straight! (no curves) So i guess i cant backup this dvd then.. oh well!

Since it's curved, does it still play well in your standalone DVD player?
 
yes the movie still plays fine in the reader, however it skips and then locks up in my dvd recorder when trying to plaay it.. very odd! Its like the reader doesnt care if its curved or not lol Oh and yes, it still plays in my Sony dvd set top box too
