Error during post (Win 98)

I am getting the following message when I boot my Win 98 system. After I hit a key the system posts just fine.

"Cannot find a device that may be needed to run windows or a windows appliation.

The windows registry or system.ini file regers to this device file, but the device no longer exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

nwlink.vxd

press any key to continue"

Last night I installed Everquest and upgraded to directx 8.1. I do not know what this file is related too. What can I do to fix this???

Thanks,

Nwlink is Microsoft's protocol to communicate with a Novell network which uses IPS/SPX.

Look through the System.ini and delete any reference to nwlink.vxd and use the FIND function in the registry editor to find and remove any mention of the same. After rebooting you won't get the error message again.

Most excellent! Your post reminded me that I attempted to add IPX for a network game last night. It did not install correctly so we did not use it. Thanks for your response!!!
