What does this mean ? This happens with Bvckup 2

It says: This is a rare and exotic issue na dit indicates a bad control checksum somewhere along the I/O pipelin.

1. Check disk for errors

2. Check online if this is a known issue with hardware, its drivers or firmware.

Is my 4 TB WD Black going bad ?

Where are you getting this error? What does something like crystaldiskinfo or HDtune say about the smart attributes of the drive?

Ok, thanks for the additional info. In short, yes, your WD HDD is starting to develop unstable sectors on the disk. This will get worse over time. I would say backup to another device anything that is not backed up on that WD black, and RMA if possible. WD blacks have 5 year warranties which is nice.

Are you sure it is developing unstable sectors on the disk ? Just making sure.

Thanks I have until next year to RMA!

Yes that is what the current pending sector count >0 means. It is probably not super bad yet, as it is only 4 so far, but may as well get a new replacement in warranty while you can.

A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is an error-detecting code commonly used in digital networks and storage devices to detect accidental changes to raw data. Blocks of data entering these systems get a short check value attached, based on the remainder of a polynomial division of their contents. On retrieval, the calculation is repeated and, in the event the check values do not match, corrective action can be taken against data corruption. CRCs can be used for error correction
