error copying file from 1 computer to another ...

What reason can there be that when I copy files from an NT4 machine over to a Win98 machine, and then do a comp on the files, the files don't match? The cables? Hub? Network card? I thought they do CRC check on the transmitted and received data?

I do know that its not the HD because if I copy it enough times the files will eventually match ...

Can I make explorer verify that the copied version is the same as the original version somehow (without me going to dos and do comp)?
