I'm having a problem with my DVR and Denon 1913 setup. I keep getting an error code on the DVR when trying to watch cable TV, cFO1. Does anyone know what that means? My DVR is a Motorola DCX3400-M and it keeps flashing the error code cFO1 right when I turn it on, basically my screen is black for 30 minutes until I can watch some cable TV. i believe it has something to do with my Denon 1913 because it only started happening when i setup the HDMI ARC.

Cable TV goes from DVR to Denon 1913 and I get error code cF01 on the display screen of the DVR, I have no picture for 30 mins. Called the cable company and they never heard of that code. They think it's the Denon trying to tell the DVR something.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

That's a weird one, since you shouldn't be using the ARC feature when watching cable with the configuration you described.

Out of curiosity, when you set up ARC, did you make a change just to your TV or did you also enable ARC on the Denon?

I shouldn't be using ARC? Why do you say that? I wanted to use ARC in order to power down both the Denon and the TV with one power button. I'll try and be more descriptive with how I hooked it up.

I went into the Denon setup and turned on HDMI control and I went into my LG and turned on simplelink. Now, I connected the cable TV by HDMI cables from the DVR to the Denon cab/sat port. Next I connected the HDMI ARC OUT from the Denon into the HDMI IN ARC on the LG TV.

I just changed a setting on the DENON, forgot what the setting was. Will power it on in a bit to see if it's still happening. Maybe tomorrow, I'm getting sleepy.

We had a bit of a miscommunication.

HDMI-ARC (audio return channel) is used to get an audio signal to the Denon which it wouldn't otherwise have access to. About the only situation I can imagine in which this comes in handy is when you manage to send a signal directly to the TV without going through the Denon (such as netflix streaming if you have a smart TV) and you want to still play the sound through the Denon. ARC will send the audio signal from the TV back to the Denon through the HDMI cable. That's why I didn't think you would be using this feature given the configuration you described.

However, you very well might want to use HDMI-CEC (consumer electronics control), which is supposed to provide functionality like you describe (i.e. using one remote to turn multiple devices on or off).

In many products, setting these two different HDMI features up involves very similar (if not identical) processes. I'm pretty sure that's the case with the Denon. I have no idea about LG. You'll have to look it up in the manual and, more likely than not, troll some forums (avsforum.com is the best) to see if people have had problems with this feature set for your specific TV. In my limited experience, these HDMI features can be a bit of a pain. Some manufacturers implement them in half-hearted ways and describe them very poorly in the manuals.

A couple of other thoughts:

1. Is it possible that the error code shown is really Ef01 (perhaps due to a malfunctioning display on the cable box)? I cannot find anything about a cF01 error code for that box online (even on sites that allegedly list them all). However, I did find this with respect to Ef01: "EF01 = settop was not able to get EDID from the connected HDMI TV. This indicates an HDMI bus reading / interop issue. We recommend changing the HDMI cable first, since some faulty cables can affect the timing/quality of these communications."

2. On many TV sets, hdmi-cec has to be used with a specific HDMI port on the TV. So you might have 3-4 HDMI ports, but you have to use slot 1 (or some other specified port). You'll need to check your manual to ensure that you're using the correct one.

Like I said above, these features can be a pain. I gave up and just use multiple remotes (until I get around to programming my Harmony).
