Hello Friends,
I am a new member here. Just joined in today. I've been trying to register for anandtech forums using my yahoo ID but it just won't allow me. It gives me an error message saying "Error Code 578". After registering for this account with my gmail ID, i tried to change my ID to the yahoo one but it gave me the same problems. Can you please tell me why is this happening?
Also, I am unable to change some things under my profile like my country. Can my browser be a problem. I am using Opera 8.5 on slackware 10.2.

So I can't use yahoo? But, can anyone please tell me why is it banned? I use my yahoo id for all my forums so i can be notified of them quickly. If I can't use yahoo i'll need to change all my forum's emails ID to my gmail ID. Anyways thanks for your reply buddy.
 
It is not allowed because of problems with Yahoo users. Yahoo will not help the forums with a users real ID if a member is abusing his membership here. Also, anyone can get multiple (Ya, I know. They can get addresses elsewhere too) address and continue the abuse.
 
Thank you friends. Well now I've opened an account in gmail to receive all mails related to all forums I've signed up for. So, thats problem solved for me.
But, anyone knows about my second problem related to changing my profile settings?

Have a firewall running? If so disable and try to change the country setting.
 
Nah I haven't got ne firewall running. I can see the dropdown list for the countries but it just reverts back after changing the value.
 
HEy zim thanks for the tip. But, you seemed to have missed my first post. It says i'm using slackware 10.2. And zonealarm won't work on linux. Also, I'm logged in as a user and not as root so turning off the firewall won't be too much of a problem. Plus, anyway i'm scraping slackware for FreeBSD in a few days so i'm trying to experiment as much as I can with it.
