so i was changing sometjhing in the bios of this old laptop when the power cord fell out (no battery). i turned it back on and i get error code 175. the cd drive starts up but it still shows that error code...

after research it is Bad EEPROM CRC (dont know what it is).

i read a cold reboot would work, well ive had it unplugged for up to 20 mins from all power (including cmos) and it still gives me the error. any ideas?

sounds like you corrupted the bios chip
with an "old" laptop, that means you are in deep doo doo
you are going to have to replace or reflash ("blind flash")

a 24 hour cmos clear might help, no DC from wall, no battery (big) - no battery (small round)

Hi, The BIOS and the BIOS SETUP are two diffrent things. Possibly all you need do is RESET the BIOS SETUP. Check your MB manual for the battery jumper. Usually you move the jumper to pins 2-3 for a moment and then back to 1-2. If you can't find the jumper you can remove the battery, wait a couple of hours and put it back. Both methods must be done with the AC power removed from the PSU.
Good Luck, Jim
