Hi,

I just bought a 2nd WD SATA HDD for my pc. After Installing it, I ran the windows XP error chekcing tool on it and at the end it reported some bad sectors.
so, stupid question #1: Is it normal to have "some" bad sectors on a brand new HDD (I'd assume not)
stupid question #2: Should I care ?
question #3: Is this windows tool reliable ? Isn't there anything better ?

Any help is appreciated.

No, it's not normal to see bad sectors on a brand new drive. I'd return the drive for a new one.

If you want a second opinion, you can run the drive maker's diagnostics program in extended mode, or the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test.
