Operating system is Windows 2000 Professional. Hard drive is a Seagate serial ATA & is partitioned NTFS .

When attempting to run check disk on hard drive, upon reboot the following error message is displayed "Cannot open the Volume for Direct Access".

Apparently the check disk is not being ran.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem ?

I have done some research on Microsoft, but the solution they give, apparently applys to an NT operating system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Win2k is NT5, so a solution to that applies to W2k also.

I suggest uninstalling anything that filters the disk - disk partitioning, formatting, defragging, etc. and trying again.
Zone Alarm is supposed to have an issue with this too, but I've not seen that.

If you list everything (non-MS) that you have in add-remove control panel perhaps someone will see something.

I know this issue will occur with at least some versions of Norton AntiVirus. If you're running that, try uninstalling and see if that takes care of the prob. At least you'd know if that was it... even if you don't want to do w/o NAV
