Error burning CD using Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4. How can I tell if the error is caused by copy protection?

I was trying to make a backup (yes, a honest backup) of my Plextor 2000 CD using Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4. After what appeared to be a complete disk copy (message said "complete&quot😉I got another message in a pop up screen that said "unexpected I/O error" while reading from source. Is this a copy protected CD? I was burning @12X to a 700MB Memorex blank. Do I need to drop the burn speed down? Should I use only 650MB blanks? Is Memorex an OK brand? Only had this Plextor 12/10/32A about a week so I'm still learning. I have had some success in making copies so I don't think it's my Plextor. Any advice......
 
I would try dropping the write speed down. I ussually use the same size media for the source and target discs. Was there any linger description of the problem?
