HI
i have a 30 gb seagate harddrive that was slave but decided to make it master( the one i had as master is going to a new home).
It is partitioned into three.first partition is fat32(4.8gb),second is ntfs(20gb),third is fat32(the rest).

so i put it on the same ide as the previous hd and put a jumper on it for master and proceded to install winxp from dos and cd.xp copies the files to it then reboots. After post the hd gets detected as does the boot record but directly following that i get the error"error booting from previous device".

This has got me stumped.its obviously not a problem with the os booting as"boot ini"is detected.I thought maybe the "boot ini"is scripted incorrectly but am not sure.

Can anyone shed light on what the problem might be.any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not really sure. Try booting off the xp cd and do a repair or reinstall, but really if you are having problems do a format and reinstall. Did you havr linux on the drive? if so you might have to boot with a 98boot disk and do a fdisk /mbr.
