Whenever I go to install a program nowadays, I get the error in the title.....

I am logged as an administrator, so I don't know how I could possibly get 'more' privileges.

Anyone have any ideas? If it has to do with my WMI, perhaps? that went south on me a while ago.

Cheers,
Dia

If WMI is corrupted, you either have to do a System Restore to a point before the corruption occurred, or do a "Repair Install" of xP. See here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823775

I don't know what you mean by "went south", but I'm assuming you have WMI error messages. I would definitely try to get the WMI back to working order before trying to deal with this other issue. Could very well be related.

Please explain what you mean by WMI going south.

Also, check your Event Viewer for error messages (red icons):

Start\Programs\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer

Or

Start\Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer

Look in the System and Application logs, particularly System log.
