Err Made a stupid mistake that needs help fixing

hey guys. I have a work t42p lappie. Since I'm going away on business for a week, I wanted to transfer some songs/vids to it in order to break the monotony of the trip. easiest way I thought was to change the settings for "Computer Name" in system properties from domain to workgroup so it could join my home workgroup and I can share files from my desktop. well problem is after I restarted it asks for a password I don't know. I tried everything I could think of but no help. is there any way I can get the lappie to switch back to the original domain so I can actually use my computer?

this is a long shot and may not work but have you tied to start it in safe mode?

tried and failed. asks for the same password that I don't know

Since this is a work laptop, I am inclined to believe that the techs who set it up put that password on during the setup. You'll probably have to call them to find out the password.

If its a win9x laptop though, you could probably just hit cancel and access the local system without a hitch.

Have the domain adminitrator re-add the system to the domain.

But how can the admins re-add me to the domain if I can't even get past the login screen anymore? it doesn't gimme the option to change domains or anything. I think i'm stuck in workgroup mode with no idea what the password is.

Because the admins will know what the password is.

It's restricted to domain logon for a reason - so that people don't get into it and f*ck it up. You've managed to do that enough for your own misuse though.

Take it back, suck it up, and admit that all you wanted to do was put some of your personally owned, non-stolen music on it. They'll probably rejoin it, and if you're lucky, tell you what you certainly shouldn't do to make a work machine access your home network, wink wink nudge nudge.
