Err. Laser printer needs to be cleaned??

So I have this nec superscript 870 laser printer.

It has started to print a bit funky. As in now even and very light in some areas.
Does this mean it needs to be cleaned or a new toner?

If toner where can I buy one other than at the website?

What do you suggest?
 
Carefully shake the toner cartridge outside or over a garbage can, not my fault if ink spills everywhere. But that seems to solve problems like that on our laser faxs/printers.
