err how do i unzip .P01 files?

ugh, so many diff. types of compression types...

why can't ppl just use .zip universally? zip is a zip (i know im spilling my utter ignorance)

but really, is there all-in-one unzipping utility that covers everything including .p~ files? Winrar is close but doesn't support this type..
