Just returned from Best Buy. I think the following is a good/hot deal on an R280LX Ericsson Cell Phone and AT&T Wireless service:

[1] Phone = $99.00

[2] $50.00 mail in rebate when you buy the phone and sign up for AT&T Wireless [at least $29.99/mnth]

[3] $75.00 mail in rebate when you sign up for AT&T service [new customers only]

[4] $50.00 Best Buy Gift Card [mailed to you] when you buy the phone.

$99.00 cost of the phone minus $50.00 rebate minus the $75.00 rebate = profit of $25.00. Add the Best Buy gift card for another $50.00. In effect, you make $75.00 on this deal.

Found out you can also sign up on line and make $75.00. The only difference is the $50.00 "best buy gift card" is a rebate check instead.

The ultra cool thing about this particular phone is being able to send/receive email from/to the phone for an additional $6.99/month.

You can get the phone for only .01 at amazon.com and still get the $50&$75 ($105 total back in rebate).

Plus you can buy $100 worth of stuff and get $50 off with coupon in amazon wireless department.

Only catch is that you will have to get 1 or 2 day shipping for the phone, since the phone must be activation by Jan. 15, to get the $75 rebate.

Watch out... that phone is for internet access in your area and if it's not like around Detroit, they have you get another phone... I tried to buy one online but they e-mailed me back and said that I would have to get another one :( *cry* oh well the phone I got was just like the R280LX but I think it's an A1228 or something and black not silver :). It's not too bad service so far... but also if you want to compare you can go to myurl and you get the $50 dollar rebate for the phone $75 rebate for the service and a $100 rebate after your first two bills from getconnected.com after you receive them and copy them. The phone was only 70 or so on their site... but now I think they might have removed it since I ordered... happy hunting ;-).

You should still have been able to buy the phone, even if you couldn't use the internet access on it...I find it odd that they'd stop you from purchasing it...

Do they charge a $25 activation fee? (cutting your profit down to $50)

Think I might go do this on the way home after work today...

1800mobiles.com has this phone for free with FREE SHIPPING, plus you get the $125 in rebates (with activation on a $29.99 or higher rate plan). Unfortunately, with AT&T, there seems to be no way around the $25 new account activation fee.

Note that amazon.com requires that you spend $100 in the wireless store to get the $50 off (which they tell you about right on their page, by the way). If you spend 1 cent on the phone, you'll need $99.99 worth of other wireless stuff to get the $50 off. Oh, they'll charge for shipping, as well.

The R280LX is on getconnected.com's site, but it's priced at $99.99 (the 1228LX was $79.99 when it was still listed as available).

amazon is still the better deal

you get the same thing at 1800mobiles, plus $100 of stuff for $50.

For the web orders, do you have to actually have the phone by 1/15, or do they activate it before they send it to you?

vinnyracer, unless you know of something I don't, your logic is flawed.

First, the accessories in amazon's wireless shop are in general overpriced. Even with the 50% off that the $50 off a $100 purchase potentially represents, the prices are generally high.

More importantly, why not get the phone for free from 1800mobiles and make a separate purchase from amazon's wireless store? Before you say that you can get the phone for one cent and buy other things (not from the wireless store) to reach the $100 minimum, I ask if you've tried to do it. Unless you know something that I (and others) don't, amazon won't let you do it.

If you do know something I don't, please share it with me. I'd be much happier to be wrong than right in this case.

I signed up for the deal through 1800mobiles last night. I didn't really see $100 worth of stuff I wanted at the wireless store at Amazon. The only item I really wanted was out of stock. As mathprof said, can always go back and order it later. 1800mobiles had free shipping, I upgraded to 2nd day air so total price up front was $5. Thanks guys!

Just an FYI, I believe that all of these "deals" required a contract of a certain length--I think it's a year.

is there any reason why att doesn't offer the 29.99 plan, but only the 39.99 plan and above? what happens if i order with 1800mobiles with the 29.99 plan? will att bump it up to 39.99? i guess i'll call them tom

I agree it's an ambiguous Subject when the minimum contract costs [12x$29] arent't deducted from the "+$75". There is no free anything on this deal.

What do you expect, free phone and free service?

You get a phone for .01 and $125 back. $25 activation fee. Plus you can get 250weekday/500weekend for $29.99 a month (1 year contact).

Unlimited airtime for web browsing.

This is a hot deal to me.
