I'm not quite knowledgeable enough to really speak intelligently on this, so I apologize if what I am saying is wrong or just plain stupid. 🙂

But, I thought a big part of why Larrabee never made it has to do with the fact that Intel is married to x86. This caused Larrabee to never really be competitive. Apple could get the talent, then acquire a company, and then go from there.
