This is going to be good. Cantor can't run as an independent but from what I read he may be able to mount a write-in campaign, which would split the party in that district, giving the Democrat a chance to win. If not, if enough conservatives decide they don't like Brat and either sit out the election or vote for the Democrat, the Democrat has a chance to win. Slim but it's there, it all depends how crazy the conservatives are in that district. What's going to be the real fun is that Brat is a Christian Reconstructionist. Some views from its founder:

and

Pure Teahadi Calvanist...lol! Boy is this going to be fun to watch unfold. I bet Cantor is crying in his soup tonight.

based on his concession speech at least, it doesn't sound like he's going to mount a write-in campaign or anything along those lines.

This is the Dem in the district:
http://www.trammellforcongress.com/index.html
It doesn't bode particularly well that his web page title is "Page Title Here."
More funny, this defeat might have been orchestrated by Cooter Davenport:

Less funny, I read that Cantor was the last Republican Jew in congress?
Edit: Looks like it:

Last I heard the democrat did not get enough signatures to get on the ballot. Write-in vs write-in vs grassroots guy in the news 24/7? Good luck with that.

Man 5.4 million spent by Cantor, 200 grand by David Brat for the win. There's just so many reasons why this is a huge blow for the establishment GOP.

How much was spent by outside groups- you know, "non-profits", PACS & so forth?

It's important to remember that there's a lot of not so obvious spending on behalf of Tea candidates. It's also important to realize that primaries are often won by zealots & don't necessarily reflect the desires of the electorate at all.

Mainstream Repubs need to wise up, recognize that letting their most ardent far right financial supporters radicalize their base has its downside, like them starting a civil war for control of the Party. They'll turn on anybody, eat their own to get what they want. The Teahadists are their instrument.

but but the tea party's dead

That has been the drum beat by the GOP establishment to subdue support for Tea party backed candidates.

I think in some areas of the country, local Tea Party groups are not well received, and have strayed off the original Tea Party message. In other parts they are still very much relevant.

It is pretty funny how people bitch about the Koch brothers funding of the Tea Party when the Tea Party seems to be pretty disorganized as compared to say other political action groups like George Soros and Moveon.org.

I'm non-religious, pro choice, don't give a shit if your gay and want to marry your lover conservative. I hope the Tea Party makes a massive comeback in it's originally intended form and kicks the shit out of the GOP establishment.

Does everybody in this district of Virginia have the "fuckface"? There is no Tea party, but yeah this is a nice surprise. Cantor getting scalped like this is a big deal and it pretty much means that Republican party as we know it is in fact dead. The party is just a lumbering beast that is have its spine eaten away by fanged loons! Once the host is fully devoured they may or may not just changed the name of party, no one will notice because of some distraction...like a some calamity of a boy being trapped in a balloon traversing some nutter's stronghold state.

wise and beautiful woman like Cantor probably has many enemies, I would say Boner did him in, but he's too busy cry to his therapist about having to mop the floors of his pa's bar.

lol dream on. Only reason dems win anything is they cant tax for what they spend or else.

I don't know how long this 1.5-2T deficit spending per annum can last but as long as it does Dems can win. Soon as they ask ppl to actually pay for it party over.

Uh, deficit has been projected to be under 400 billion this year. Not sure where the 1.5 - 2Trillion deficit projection came from.

And he really wanted John Boehner's job too.

Too bad he was kind of entertaining in a douchy sort of way.

The the times he stood behind Representative Boehner it was easy to imagine him ready to stab him in the back with a concealed knife if Representative Boehner didn't stick to the party line.

Nothing says "Go off message and you're a dead man." like those soulless vacant stares.

....
Boehner probably doing a happy dance right now.
now lets see how the 2014 House will do w/o Cantor being a thorn in Boehner's side.

will Boehner bring the House back to being moderate conservative instead of extreme right wing batshit crazy

He's still thinking of his beer buddy Bush.

If the Republican Party is dying, then certainly wouldn't this be that moment? Cantor was so status quo, so establishment. He was comical in his soullessness. The majority leader of the house just got ran over by a train. Just look at the face of his wife!!!

Not under 400, 492B and thats not accurate anyway when you take agency debt into account.

Never-mind state debt or the years of 1T+ real deficits back on 09-12. We are on borrowed time my friend. Never count Republican out is all I'm saying even though I'm no fan.
