"eraser point" laptops

I'm in the market for a new laptop. I despise touchpads with a passion. I know you can connect an external mouse, but that isn't always convenient. I know Thinkpads still have the eraser point mouse, do any others?

I have one on my HP but it's not as good as I remember them being. It's not gradual enough. My friend who works for HP thinks the same thing. Part of the problem is concave shape of the eraserhead. When you move your finger, it catches on the "rim", causing the cursor speed to ramp up

As Stu already mentioned, the Dell Latitudes have one (in addition to the primary touchpad). The one on mine is this rubbery, concave thing, not the classic rough eraser type.

i've seen one gateway model with it also. i dont remember the model number, but it wasnt too long ago.

Can you change the eraserhead? A Lenovo I used to have came with both a concave and convex tip.

My Lenovo T60 came with three different eraserheads in different shapes. And it acts like a left mouse button if I tap it. Good stuff, Lenovo.

Ok, seriously, this needs to stop. So, repeat after me: Dell and Microsoft did not produce Vista together. Dell does not have the best laptops in the world. Microsoft Vista does not run best on a Dell (it actually runs better on a Mac! Chew on that for a second). It is impossible for a freaking eraser mouse to be optimized for Vista Business/Ultimate (For the record, they are the same damn OS... they come on the same DVD). The techs where you work are the world biggest idiots, and they very possibly work for Dell, Microsoft, or both, hence their obviously wrong advice.

Ok? Everything cleared up now? Are we ready to think for ourselves?

Ditto. They have a variety pack that comes with new laptops, or you can order them too. Three different styles in one pack.

See, a not quite so ridiculous statement would be that Apple's touchpads are optimized for OS X since well... they probably are. But Dell's for Vista?! HAHAHAHA
