I have a hard drive that is dead and I want to rma it. Is there any way to erase it if it is not working. I have tax info and other personal things on it.
Thanks all info appreciated.

I don't think those progs will work if the hard drive itself is dead since it can't even be accessed. Not sure if there is a way to do it but hopefully someone else'll help out...

Try running a strong magnet over the drive, don't know if this works with a harddrive but work great with a floppy. Worth a try though.

I was thinking the same thing. I had a maxtor drive go bad on me and I talked to the guy at maxtor and I asked if that would work. He said maybe. I might give it a try better than nothing. Just need to find a strong magnet. Thanks

nope, even a huge 15" subwoofer magnet would likely do no harm to the drive. if the drive is dead, theres not much you can do w/o actually taking it apart and damaging it, and that doesnt look good when you're trying to rma it ;)
