Its supposed to be a trilogy, they just didn't tell anyone that it was.

When i watched, I thought the same thing. It just ends. Looked up online later that they are making three of them, kinda like Lord of the Rings; they just didn't market it that way.

Two words. Sequel setup.

*** Spoiler ***

That kid Murtog, the one whose dad was a bad guy, well he's actually Eragon's brother and ends up becoming his archenemy in the next chapter.

Pretty much. It was so bad that I'm wondering if they are even going to bother with the other two.

It didn't just "end", buddy ripped down his curtains and unveiled his dragon. I thought it was pretty evident that a sequel was coming.

It started being shown on TV recently, I have yet to watch it and well I prob wont being that it went from theaters to being gone rather quickly, I didnt think it was a good movie. So the burning question is do you think it made enough cash for people to warrant investing in making another.

Damn, checked IMDB and it has only 5.1*, lol.

Don't understand why everyone hates it so much. I saw the movie and it wasn't epic or anything, but I didn't think it was bad either. Never read the books, so I don't know how they are.

I actually kind of liked the movie...

According to RottenTomatoes it did 75 million (don't know if thats domestic only) and 35 million in rentals.
Also, got a 16 percent at rottenT.

Great Rotten reviews:

For those who love the fantasy genre known as sword and sorcery -- and I count myself in their number -- sitting through the movie version of Eragon will suck the will to live right out of you.

Laughably bad, mind-bogglingly derivative, and easily one of the worst movies of the year.

The only real difference between Eragon and one of those laughably chintzy movies produced for the Sci-Fi Channel is the cast.

Just think OC choopers even jumped on the promo bandwagon and made a chopper for this film. Money talks so im sure they threw out a nice chunk of change to get the bike made. I wonder what the film cost to make.

It's a juvenile LotR.

The mistake is comparing the two. It's like comparing box wine to $50/bottle wine. One is cheap and aimed at young people but gets the job done, and one deserves a degree of respect because of the quality and time put in to making it worth the cost.

Better yet, it's a direct comparison of the writers of both books... Tolkien, who wrote LotR around the age of 60 vs. a guy who wrote Eragon as a teenager. Eragon was the first of only two novels he's written thus far.

I wouldn't call it "awful", but I'm not surprised it did horribly, considering the piss poor marketing and factoring in that it was a little-known early reader's book to start with. I enjoyed the movie, but at the same time I got to see it for free. Bottom line, it's not a movie geared towards adults.

So how does it compare to the books? Eragon has been on HBO a lot lately. I read the 2 books and enjoyed them.

That movie was unwatchable. I Tivo'd it on HBO the other day and got about half way through it before I just lost interest and deleted it.

It was a suckfest.

I don't understand the LotR comparisons either. They're both trilogies and based on a medieval setting. Other than that I don't see any similarities.

LoKe I'm just kind of in the middle, didn't hate it and it didn't blow me away. But that's my reaction to most movies, maybe I'm just dispassionate, lol.

It's not geared toward kids either. My son got bored with it even before I did.

I"m relatively certain it can't be any worse than the first Dungeons and Dragons movie.
Especially the ending. Worst. Ending. EVER.
The sequel was definitely better (and had no association with the first)
