er, I lost my cell phone.

My sanyo 6400 with SprintPCS.

My friends threw me a birthday party past weekend and it dissapeared since. I called the bar up, they said it's not there. I called my friend's place I crashed in and he says it's not there either.

I've called my cell phone itself numerous times, it rings then it goes to voicemail. It must mean the battery is still alive and it's hasn't been stolen or anything...

what should I do?

Go tell your service provider and get a new phone. You might want to hurry and make sure no one is using your account.

Why can't they have tracers on it if it's powered on ? I know it's a bit excessive for common citizens like us... but what if we could pay them to do a little investigating for us ?

as far as i know, sprintPCS or at least my phone doesn't allow checking voicemail from outside phones. When I reach the voicemail from other phones, there simply isn't any prompt to enter the password. No matter what I press, # *, whatever.

hmm. I thought SprintPCS did allow you to check voice mails from outside. I'm not sure how to do it. I know they have the option of not having to enter your password if your calling your voicemail from your phone. What I suggest is at least call up Sprint and ask if any calls have been made from the phone in the time since you lost it, so you know whether or not someone has/is using your phone. The GPS wont help you whatsoever. No enforcement agency will take the time to help you find a phone.

Good luck. I was lucky enough to get my $300 phone back, and lucky enough to have bought it from Costco so I could get a full refund.

Yes you can... on Verizon it's the opposite of Sprint. SprintPCS is *, while VZW is # (damnit, or was it the other way around?). Do it when you hear the VM message come up. Done it in the past.
