Equivalent of 9800 Pro in current generation.

If I wanted to get one of the low end cards that are out right now, can I expect any of them to match the performance of my 9800 Pro? I'm considering getting one to tide me over until I can afford something better. I'm talking about the 8400/8500, etc.

The 7600GT will stomp the hell out of your 9800 pro.

The current generation 8600GT is about the same speed, with DX10 support(and running DX10 on this card is a joke for even early DX10 games, let alone anything in the future), for twice as much money. (nvidia kind of sat on its hands for the mid range this generation).

If youve got the cash for a midrange card, wait for a rebate deal on a 8800GT (they should be ~$200 AR soon)

I do want a fanless card... I know fanless 7600GTs exist, but I'm having trouble finding any for sale anymore. On Newegg there's a $109.99 8600GT fanless with a $20 rebate. I think I may go for that.

Ahh the 8600GTs came down substantially from their launch prices i guess, i didnt know that as i havent been watching them.

At that price its a good buy.

Cool, thanks for the info all. Mostly I want to be able to play CS:S and Orange Box on my 1280x1024, and perhaps dabble in some newer games (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare). It looks like this should work out.

Yeah, it should be fine, just be warned that enabling DX10 is suicide.

Hell it sucks even on a 8800GTX 🙁
