Looking to buy a rack for my home-theatre receiver/DVD/VCR/XBOX/cable/satellite boxes. Circuit City had 2 to choose from... was looking for more of a selection. Goodguys.com didn't have anything to go with widescreen TVs (not looking for a tv stand). Just looking for about 5 shelves straight up to put alongside a widescreen tv. Anyone know where the best place to buy these are ? Best Buy was useless as they were all TV stands and 2 shelves underneath.

The widescreen is 57" so we'd like to avoid those if at all possible. It'd take up entirely too much space going 100"+ side to side. Thanks.

Was hoping for something cheaper... < $250 range... if a 5-shelf rack doesn't exist for that price, just say so... that's the whole point of this thread... is to find where to buy for a good price, right ?

I'd have to say NO to the build-it-yourself idea... I can attempt it but I just know it won't come out looking like something my fiance would approve of. ;)

Some milk cartons or cinder blocks and some wood planks should do nicely, just tell everyone you spent all your money on equipment ;)

edit: I don't know if you have one in your area, but the Ultimate Electronics stores around here have a large selection of shelves.

HEad to Ciruit City, they usually have Open Box Specials of this kind of stuff, go now, because they will still have some CHristmas Returns there...

Did try yesterday... they had 1 available for $250 and it wasn't something we'd consider no matter what the price was.

I can't believe something like this is so uncommon to purchase...

I've seen something that wold be perfect for what you're looking for. However I can't remember where. It was really nice too, hid all the cables and was really sleek looking. I'll see if I can find it.

Hire a cabinet shop to build it, then.

I have the Standesign 5... definitely a nice rack. Only complaints are:

1. Shelves are welded in place, so if you have an extra-tall amp or need to stack components they might not fit

2. The "cable management" channel is sort of a joke. Will hold maybe four or five cables comfortably but it's more trouble than it's worth. To work well it would need to be a bigger channel with large removeable sections so you could get your hands in there to route the cables.

Other than that it's a well-made, sturdy rack with isolation feet and spikes. I have black ash wood shelves but you can get glass too--pretty classy :)

The GF bought me this to hold the AV stuff she bought me for Xmas... but it's being replaced with built in cabinets soon.

It went together easily, and is very sturdy. She picked it because it was the narrowest full size audio cabinet to be found (only 22" wide at it's widest) and offered decent ventilation.
