I am frustrated with the Windows 12 media player..in particular the equalizer...its doesn`t work as well as previous versions of media player.

I am looking for a stand alone -- FREE equalizer, MP3 player.
I need to edit the MP3. In particular I need to get rid of background noise.

Most of the Free equalizers come with a download installer that is very difficult to uninstall or it also downloads stuff that you do not want on your computer.

Not sure I follow. Do you want to edit the track itself, and save the edits? If so, try Audacity. If you want to listen to the music with temporary adjustments, try a different player. Foobar2000, Winamp, or Clementine might work. I like Foobar for Windows.
