Never ever ever buy Epson, and this just reinforces it. Epson cartridges will say empty, which disallows you from printing at all, when they really aren't empty yet. This forces you to buy more of their overpriced cartridges just so you can get the damn printer to work.

OP's article again shows the shady company Epson really is, and the court has enabled them to carry on with a monopoly of which they are making a mint at the expense of people who have their crappy printers.

Like one person said, next "will they file a lawsuit against paper makers as well and try to get a law passed that only Epson Paper can be used in an Epson printer?"

I agree with moshquerade completely. I liked the printers up until the point where it just stopped working. I, fortunately, only had to purchase one, with a good warranty, so when it kept breaking I just got a newer one. Every newer one though sucked too.

When this one breaks again, I am thinking of a nice little Canon or something. Room mate has one that never fails. And I don't think I really need color anymore. So it's back to the simple black and white printer.

I had a Photo Stylus 800. Worked great for 6 months. After that, it would band really badly if I didn't use the 'clean print head' utility, which would suck up ink.
I tried to sell it ebay. When I searched the printer to find out what it went for, I got mad. There were hundreds of listings. The max bid was 10 bucks. People couldn't give this crappy printer away.

As long as I can continue to get ink for my Epson printer at Swift Ink, I'll continue to use it. If the supply of cheap ink dries up I'll definately move to different brand.

Yea I got a Epson r220 because of the cheap ink and ability to print on DVDs.

Before I ever buy a printer I look how much the ink is and where I can get it from. Almost got a cannon but saw their ink cost to much and was very little to nothing in the aftermarket because of their "chips" and such. So I got the epson r220.

Yea but I can get a FULL set of carts for $7 or so for the Epson R220. That and it came with the DVD print tray. But canon was 2nd on my list.

There are canon carts selling as low as 99 cents per cart for Canon as well. The newer models just need you to pop the chip off of it and put it on the generic cart and then hold the resume button for 5 seconds.

I prefer Hobbicolors WC8 ink since it is actually designed for the newer Canon line and looks great still.

I'd rather buy a $300 printer that you can refill with cheap ink then a $50 printer that locks the carts up and you could only use OEM ink.

There seem to be two opinions being blended together in this thread.

One is that Epson's profit model for printers, making money primarily with cartridges, sucks. That I agree with.

The other is, that the court is supposed to decide cases based on what is best for us, consumers. That isn't the job of the court, the court bases decisions on the law, and chances are Epson has the legal right to prevent infringement on it's patents and copyrights.

So unless someone has a legal reason to oppose the court decision, I can't agree with blaming the court.

I'm glad you feel that way. I'm coming over to put a lock on your gas cap that will allow you to only buy your gasoline from me at $10 per gallon.

PS: Courts rule in favor of consumers all the time if they want to.

I bought an R200+CIS and never looked back. Then you can also see how much ink is wasted during a head cleaning action. I'd be pi$$ed if I install an OEM cartridge set and it waste that much ink.

I hate Epson printers anyway so this has no affect on me. Canon makes better printers.
