Killer deal.
Underclocked: The Epson Stylus Photo 870 is a printer in their photo line. It is specially designed for printing photographs. Though one might easily presume that the 2880x720 dpi quality of other printers in the Epson line, the photo engine in the 870, 1270, and a few others produce the continuous tones and saturation of real photographs. This printer gets a nod from many sources for its superb quality - the best for the price right now.
I've been seriously considering buying one of these. I have an Alps MD5000 with the dye sub upgrade kit which does good photos but the per print cost is prohibitive. The per print cost on the 870 is actually pretty good. One problem they've had reported is a tendency, in some areas, for some reds to change to orange due to ozone. Apparently, Epson has ameliorated this problem by changing the photo paper it uses.
I'm torn now about whether to spend the $$ to do this. With services like Shutterfly.com there are very affordable places that print great quality prints at prices that are equivalent or less to printing them yourself. Stocking up on supplies can get kind of expensive. After I use my 75 free prints I'll see how it's going and decide whether it's worth the hassle of not printing them myself.
