Epson Stylus C62 Color Inkjet Printer, 5760 x 720 dpi $40 Free Shipping + Tax (No Rebates)

Yeah, I got it last year for about the same price.

This printer is just OK- it's pretty noisy as far as inkjet goes. At least the ink is cheap enough if you buy the aftermarket stuff.

I think it's not a bad printer for the money -- especially at this price. (it is loud and has an annoying start-up process, though) The OEM ink cartridges alone are worth $40 or more (retail price is around $55 for both cartridges). Of course there are generic ink cartridges for much less, but these printers can be picky about the ink cartridges and I have found that it's good to have extra OEM cartridges around just in case. I might get it just for the ink.

I've been pretty happy with this printer for my "in-the-bedroom" system (although I don't think I'd want it for office use), and this is a great price. At the sub-$50 level, you generally see printers that feel like they will fall apart and that use a single color cartridge for b&w printing. ink4art.com has good oem cartridge prices -- anandtech has links showing sales that appear quite often.

It looks like the combined scanner-printers are coming down in price, which may be forcing some of the inkjets off of the market. You can probably get such a unit with a printer portion as good as the C62 for $80, so keep that in mind.

Note: I don't think you can refill your own Epson cartridges. They have a computer chip that keeps track of your ink usage (bastards!).

you can reset the computer chip. and it seems like they tell you ink is low when it actually isn't
if you can't find the info, give me a pm. it was posted on dpreview forums

Does these ink carts have Print Heads built onto it ?

if it doesn't, then you can pick up generic ink for like 3-4 bucks a pop.

For my Epson 880 I use generic ink and it comes out like OEM ones.

The print heads are in the printer, not the cartridge, so using generic ink does carry that risk. However, at this price if you use the OEM ink through one cycle successfully and then use generic ink until the print heads are clogged and then throw the printer away, you still got a good deal.
