epson stylus 880 - how to change carts. when the ink light isn't blinking

the instruction says to hold the 'ink' button for 3 seconds when the ink light is blinking. but my light is not blinking yet even though the colors comes out looking like its very low. when i press and hold the ink button for 3 seconds, it just goes and cleans itself. any ideas?
 
Sounds like your print heads may be partially blocked.
Have you tried using the Epson utility for cleaning your printheads?
 
well, i do end up cleaning the head every time i try to change the cart. i'll try it again when i get home, but i remember pressing the ink button once didn't do anything.
 
Power off the printer, open the lid.
If you look just under the left edge of the cartridge carriage, you'll see a small square white plastic button. Push that button down and you'll be able to slide the carriage over to the left where you can swap out the carts.

Be sure to do a cleaning cycle after to make sure everything is primed up properly.
