Anyone who owns an Epson 777, 777i or the other models (I am too lazy to look them up) that use a "smart" cartridge with a chip on it may or may not know that there isn't really a simple way to refill them to avoid giving $30 to Epson for $0.51 worth of ink. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the chip resetters (the hardware, not the $20 program.) I bought some ink and refilled my cartridge successfully and now its out again, the one shot free reset from the software worked out for now. Does anyone have any experience refilling said printer's cartridges. I have plenty of ink, can I get a resetter and some cartridges to fill up (if i need them, I still have the originals that came with the printer) without spending more than the cost of the printer? If you don't have any info on the subject please respond saying how Epson is a huge @$$ hole for pulling off crap like this. I can't afford $0.12 per page, thats why I bought an $80 printer. Thanks in advance for any replies.

razor/razorblades approach :( it's like telling gillette they are jerks for making their razors not work with generic blades. they sell the printer at a loss (i assume?) and recoup that through selling their ink. yeah it's a bite in the ass, but you cant really blame the company. it's almost cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy carts sometimes :p

Razor's are one thing. One can argue that razors have all kinds of different qualities and Gillette didn't want their product's performance to be deteriorated by cheap blades.

Ink is a different matter. I am not saying that ink is ink, I am saying that the ink that epson puts in their cartridges and sells for $30 can be purchased a hundred times cheaper, for the same ink.

Next think you know, you can pick up a high performance toaster for $6 but it only toasts bread with a chip installed that you gotta spend $20 a loaf on. Or maybe an ice tray that only freezes a certain brand of bottled water. Ok thats rediculous, but so is Epson.

It's all called merchandising and it's the American way. It's immoral to get somebody over a barrel without following through with the shaft.
