Epson Printers

I have an Epson 777 printer. Anyone know how to refill the ink cartridges and reset the chip on it to "Full" again?

Ganesha,

Hey, way cool Dude! It worked! Thanks for the link!! It says on there that Epson's gonna' change the chips in April 2001 though, so you can't do this. Maybe I can get stocked up enough by then.

I think Epson sucks for this! The cartridges over the counter are like $20.00+. How much does it cost to make them? $1.00?? And they don't last that long. Think I'll get another printer that you CAN refill. If the cartridges were only say maybe $8 or $10?? Their price is a giant rip-off! Who're the crooks who OWN Epson??

Thanks again, ATSF

It's not the chips that will be changing, it's the firmware on the printer itself. They're making it so you can't reset it. So anybody who bought their printer before April can still refill 😀

Ganesha,

Well, we'll just have to wait and see what ultimately happens. It's said that a new full cartridge can be used to program the system as full, then you take it out and install the old refilled one. But, a new cartridge may only be useable for this maybe 30 times. (For some reason.) After that you'll have to buy another "new" cartridge for use as another reprogrammer. If Epson changes the cartridges too then their new ones won't work, doing this procedure, I'd presume?? I would expect that Epson would attempt to change both??

But, one question I still have about all of this is, what type of info does the chip on the cartridge contain anyway? Is it a program, or a binary code, or is it possibly just a charge on a battery on the chip? I saw a reprogrammer kit for sale for $50.00. The instructions were, insert chip into holder, light flashes in 3 to 4 seconds indicating that the reprogramming is complete. Is that possibly just a recharge to an onboard battery? If so we could do that quite easily, knowing the tech info.
