My epson printer (Epsonson Stulus COLOR 777) always cleans its "printer heads" before I print anything and it wastes a lot of ink. Is there any way to disable the cleaning of these before it prints so it doesn't waste the ink?

Its part of the design, waste ink so you have to buy more carts, thats how they make money, sell the printer at cost, huge margin on the cartridges - Ever heard of the razor and blades theory?

Inkjets are suck.

I'm going back to a Laserjet after Christmas for that very reason.

Apparently the HP cartridges have the printhead within, and the Epson does not. Thus the Epson has to keep the heads clean by doing these cleanings.

Also, only turn the printer off by its power switch, not at the plug.

I still haven't figured out where the ink goes - am I going to find a big puddle of ink if I lift up my printer ? ;)

edit>> apparently there is a reservoir underneath the carriage which contains the ink used in cleaning cycles. the ink dries harmlessly there and should never require cleaning.

yes, I have a 800 and it drinks ink like we drink water. Epsons are for professionals not office users.

Check out my review on Epinions.com about it... The Epson 777 is the biggest piece of crap printer I have ever owned! I liked my old Citizen dot matrix printer better. However, try calling Epson - they're usually good about negotiating deals. (I got reimbursed for my purchase from them.) Tell them you want an Epson C80 instead - and argue until they give it to you.. They most likely will and the C80 is a sweet printer.

I just leave my 880 on all the time so it doesn't have to go through that head cleaning process as often...and no, my heads don't get clogged. Frankly, I think the carts last long enough. I got this printer from that Dell $33 deal in June and I'm still on the original carts with 1/4 ink remaining.

i leave my 777 on all the time too, but it still does the print head cleaning every time i print (when my print sessions are far apart). I've never used my color ink yet it's 1/4 of the way gone (it shows me the ink levels). Mofo Epson, cleaning (wasting) something that i've never used.
