Epson Faces Consumer Suits

As seen here...

Some people are fed up with cartridge costs, and for good reasons... throwing 40% of the ink is definitely NOT good business...

Let's watch this one closely.

It is ridiculous, they sell these junky $40 printers, and you pay more than that just to refill the stupid things, might as well get another printer just to get the inks with it 😛

This website would be more useful with a better design.

Yep it could benefit from a major re-design.

Even I (the HTML n00b) could probably do better than centering all the text and extensive use of highlighting and bolding.

Yeah I think next round too I am with Canon....Epson used to be competitive, but now it looks all the R&D is going into consumables.

My Color Stylus 880i may be on the chopping block soon with about 10 cartridges 🙂

alkemyst,

Which Canon printer do you think is the best bang for your buck?

I can't decide between the i560, i850 and i950. I might go with whichever our local CostCo B&M has or wait for another supernova hot deal.

I really like my Epson scanner but will be looking for a photo printer in the near future. I was leaning Epson's way.

I will continue to recommend and buy their awesome line of Epson Perfection 12xx and 16xx scanners but no more Epson printers for me.

I fail to see a valid lawsuit here.

The printer does what it's supposed to do, consumers knew they'd have to buy replacement ink when they bought the printer, the replacement ink works, no one ever guaranteed that the printer would run the ink cartridge dry.

Cry me a river.

you're buying ink and the printer is setting an artificial cutoff point, telling you the cartridge is out when it really isn't, and you don't see a problem with that?

Since we are on the topic of printers, anyone else feel that printers are sometimes very difficult to work with? For normal printing they work fine, but when you throw offsets, columnd width and labels into the mix, the thing just becomes a nightmare to work with.

That i560 got me really considering it....last I checked the canon lineup it was a tight race between Canon and the 880 stylus I got for $50 from Office Depot on clearance when the C80 or whatever came out.

I will check out the 850 and 950...I know most have said the i860 is not worth the extra $30 it goes for (I think i has an extra paper tray)....

I am using the i860 it uses new ink cartigides that aresupposedely better. It has does perfect photos and is very fast but not quiet.

I have the i850 and I love it. My wife bought it for me last December for Christmas. I do a lot of photo printing (4x6 borderless) but so far I've only replaced my cartridges twice. It is fast and very quiet. This is the best Canon printer that I've ever owned. (I've own a BJC-610, BJC-6000, BJC-450, S600, S630, S750 and the I850).

Does Cannon have anything comparable to the Epson 2200? Speed and fresh-from-the-printer image quality are not the only things that make a printer great; some people need to be able to make large prints of archival quality and durability without the expense and hassle of LightJet prints.

My epson 880 is still running strong and the Ink carts are like 1.25 each at monsterink.com

I dont think i'll ever switch

I love the 880 and I'll prolly get another one.

Hrmm, uh are you sure that's the correct website? I have an Epson 880 as well and am tired of paying 30-40 per cartridge for Epson Originals.

Looks like my recent purchase for the wife of a HP 1100dtn wasn't all too bad, four stars. This is one bad boy, 23 pages per minute. Not bad for an ink jet.

does anyone have an 820 and use aftermarket cartridges? i've been scared to death of that stupid "chip" on there not reading the after market cartridge "correctly" since it won't print if it doesn't think it has ink. i've spent over 100 freaking bucks on ink this year and i SERIOUSLY want to go laser instead... i just miss color printing. sigh.

Considering that the print heads can be completely ruined if the ink runs dry, I think it's doing the right thing.
