I bought this deal a couple of days ago. The CX5400 is a new unit which is basically an improved CX5200, which gets high marks in owner reviews. Regular $149.99 - $20 CC MIR - $20 Epson MIR = $109.99 with free ship or in-store pick up. To get the CC rebate, it must have been purchased on the internet. If you want a high quality, low cost, multi-function scanner/printer/copier, this is it. The LINK.

Forgot to mention that a USB cable is included in the box.

We own 2x CX5200s and love them (paid $70 for our first and $30 for our second).. Anyone know what's different with the CX5400?

The Epson website has a news release from Sept 2003, regarding the CX5400. I read it and as I recall, one of the new features is an improved drive mechanism for the paper feeder, to make it quieter when it 1st feeds. I don't know what the CX5200 sounds like, but my CX5400 is on a par with my old HP 710 printer. They might have mentioned some others that I can't recall. I've only had the CX5400 for 2 days, and am totally impressed by it. I read reviews somewhere on the web which gave the CX5200 a 97% thumbs up in 43 user reviews, so I figured it must be good; and it is! BTW, you really got a great deal on those CX5200's.

I got mine @ Staples with a $30.00 off $150.00 coupon (sent in mail). You'll have to add something to go over the $150. as it is $149.98. The Epson has a $20.00 MIR & Staples has a $20.00 Gift Card. If you can get the $30 off $150
coupon...Potential $70 off...Well $50 & $20 credit toward....next purchase.
BTW Very nice! My Epson perfection 640U went south and I've got a HP Desktop 3820 (put that out in the living room).

A small gunshot, I'd say. Or maybe a car backfiring, it's pretty damn loud the initial feed.

The CX5200 is a nice printer, but, it lacks in photo printing on glossy paper. The ink that it uses does not shine in that format--which takes away from it's otherwise excellent resolution. On Matte paper it looks really colorful/brilliant, but, on glossy paper it's very dull. I read the CX5400 review on Epson's site and they say they have a new special glossy paper specifically for this printer... I'm skeptical of how it works.

I got mine (CX5200) cheap, and for the price I'm happy w/ it. The scanning and copying functions workwell. At this price, I'm tempted to get the CX5400 and toss the CX5200 when the ink dries up. NOTE: I do wish it had fax capabilities. Then I could get rid of my other multifunction printer too...

Update: Looks like the 5400 adds the ability to do border free printing. The 5200 lacked that feature, IIRC, even though the lesser model 3200 had it. Something about the overspraysponge not being there. I don't really need that feature, but, it would be nice to have available.

Also, I've noted several times I've received the errors:
Scanner error - - >
See your documentation and call Service if necessary. Press the On button to turn off the EPSON CX5200. Check the transportation lock and unlock it, if necessary.Turn on your EPSON CX5200 again. If the error message still appears, contact your dealer or EPSON.
Printer error - - >
See your documentation and call Service if necessary. Press the On button to turn off the EPSON CX5200, then press it again to turn it back on. If the message still appears, contact your dealer or EPSON.

Sometimes on/off/on works. Othertimes I actually have to unplug the printer, and plug it back in. I'm not sure the circumstances that cause it but I've read others had the same problem. I wonder if they fixed that w/ the 5400.
