They have the new C86 out, but I've heard awesome things about the C84. I've also heard that the C84 has a larger black ink cartridge, not sure if this is true or not. Anyone know which would be better to get, mainly for doing photos?

Also, I've heard that the C80 and C84 both won't print out black if the color cartridges are empty...any truth to that?

Canon ip3000 or ip4000. Canon i560 or i860 if you can find them on closeout. (EOM)

Photos mainly - Canon i960

I just got the c84 off of ebay for $39 brand new in the box. It is a very good printer. Probably the best in its class. As far as I know in the difference between 84 and 86 is; 86 is targeted at small photo prints class. So the smaller container of black is justified for the intended use. The c84 is more of a work horse than a strategy base the 86 is offering. Same printer, different targets of work. If you don't print heavy color, just pick up a c84. It's worth the money.

My only dispute with 84 is, the paper feeding is finicky about its placement. As long as you don't stuff more than 50 sheets in the tray, it cooperates very well with request. I'm also not sure if Generic cartridges work well with this series or not. I haven't tried myself since the ink seems to holding well after 40 various documents printed.

My prior printer was an Epson 880i series. Prior to that, HP 8xx series, Canon i8x series. Lexmark z-class. FYI.

Sweet. Tiger Direct has the C84 for $95, with a $20 and $25 rebate, so you can get it for $50. I've heard some sketchy things about TD rebates, but I've ordered from them a number of times and haven't run into any unfixable issues. I think I'll ask for this for Christmas.

I have an R200 that I use as my main printer. I'm not very impressed with the text capabilities, but the CD/DVD printing feature is killer and the photos look fantastic. I want a dedicated photo printer though, because I keep running out of ink on the R200 (that's the one I use for my school and some work stuff). Plus the Durabrite ink looks like a great thing on the C84.

On Epson, Lexmark, and Brother printers, if any one color is low/empty, you can't print ANYTHING on any color until the cartridge is replaced.
