Epson Artisan 800 @ $230 shipped?

No Lifer
Looking to recommend an All-in-one to someone. I don't have much experience in the home sector (I use and HP 4c, Canon i960 and Canon 2060 laser fax at home and Lanier multifunctions in the office).

The Epson Artisan 800 seems like a great deal right now...$230 shipped.

The next contender is the Canon MX860.

They'd have liked a legal flatbed, but I can't find any less than $300.

Brother MFC-6490CW just hit $240 as well, this one may be it...11x17 scanning/copying and printing....

The guy is the president of a homebuilder. He works with legal docs a lot...11x17 he used to just print back at the office.

Never owned a Brother printer...our fax/scanners at the office have been that brand and reliable though.

I like Canon.

An inkjet is never a "great deal".

good luck with that.

He's right in this case. If you're buying a high volume printer for someone who prints a lot of documents on 11x17, it would be stupid to buy an inkjet and not a laser printer in this case.

Why not buy an AIO Laser printer?

Something like

I do not know anything about that product or endorse it, but they have laser AIO printers that would be much better than an inkjet printer.

that's an inkjet. It's a good one, the wireless and premium step up to a legal flatbed. Cost is up there though.

Ultimately laser's aren't good for photo duty which for a home printer is something I consider.

also I never said lots of 11x17 would be printed...it's a nice option for this person though.

Unless he's printing photos all the time, I'd just order prints of photos from a store or online and get a laser printer for all nonphoto needs

Sorry, I was looking at several of them and that was listed under laser..but you're right, it appears it is not.

That laser AIO is $218.00.

If he's printing a lot of legal documents, you're much better off with a laser. Is he printing photos??? You don't want an AIO inkjet for photos either, you want a photo printer.

"also I never said lots of 11x17 would be printed"

"He works with legal docs a lot...11x17 he used to just print back at the office" <-- this is what you said. You make it sound like he works with legal docs a lot and prints on 11x17.

Again, it may be something "you consider", but you need to find out exactly what this guy is using the printer for. If he's printing photos, an AIO is a poor choice.
