Epson 1240u not being recognized by Windows, help!

OK, first up, my system config:

Asus A7A266
Athlon 1Ghz
Windows 98 SE
256 MB Crucial SDRAM
Hercules Geforce2 MX
Using Onboard Sound
Epson 1240 USB Scanner

A little while ago my old BX motherboard broke, so I had to replace it with a new motherboard and processor. So I reformatted the hard drive, got everything working, hooked the scanner up...and nothing. Windows doesn't even recognize that it has a new device hooked up to it. I try using Add New Hardware, nothing. I reformatted again, nothing. I upgraded the BIOS on my MB, nothing. I know nothing is wrong with the scanner, because I hooked it up to another computer (Pentium II / 440LX Motherboard) and it works just fine. I've checked out Epson's and ASUS's sites, and can't find any info regarding this. I figure it's a motherboard or processor conflict, because nothing else has been changed from before my old computer broke.

I haven't written/called Epson Tech Support yet, because I hear they're a real pain in the ass 😉 Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or help of any kind, I would greatly appreciate it.

The USB port wouldn't happen to be dead on your mobo would it? Have you tried any other USB devices in those ports?

You know what, that's a really good idea. Unfortunately, I don't have any other USB devices 😱

I'll have to borrow something, I guess. Or get that Gamepad I've been looking at. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am not sure if you're doing this, but here's what I think:
Do not have the scanner hooked up when you install windows and do not have the scanner plugged in when you startup. Let windows boot up, THEN plug in the scanner when it's done.
