Here's the deal: I have an asus a7n8x deluxe, took the northbridge heatsink off, and used arctic silver adhesive to stick it on to the southbridge. Now I want to RMA the board, but I have no idea as to how to take the heatsink off of the southbridge.

Got any ideas? Any help is appreciated except "Rip it off along with the southbridge"

i've heard of putting the mb in an airtight bag and putting it in the freezer for awhile to help w/removal, but i wouldn't do that personally. try using a flat head screwdriver and gently rotate to pop it off. i've done it once or twice with success, but it's pretty intimidating. good luck.

disclaimer: i take no responsiblity for any potential damage. ;)

Since you are going to be RMAing the Mobo, i Wouldnt worry too much about it. As long as thats not the reason you are sending it back just go for it and take off the heatsink however you can the easiest.

Out of curiosity, why are you RMAing the board? I had a Rev 1.04 and I've heard of BIOS issues killing that revision. I wouldn't really sweat it about the heatsink. Rip it off or just leave it on if you really want to try your luck :)

HEY! OMG YOU GUYS PUT STUFF ON AFTER I TAKE THE HEATSINK OFF!!! GRRRR

Well, I put it in a bag (anti static bag that comes with the board) and I just popped it in the freezer. 40 Minutes later, I took a flathead screwdriver to the bottom of the heatsink and *POP* it flew right off!

Good lesson learned.

I'm RMAing the motherboard because I want to. haha yeah and because of the BIOS death. I'd like to get a rev 2.0 and this is the best chance to get one. :) :) Happy camper today.

And I was going to suggest melting it off using a particle accelerator, like in the T3 movie.
