I just moved into a new house and want to put an epoxy floor in the garage. It's a new build, so there hasn't been much time for crap to get into the concrete so I think I'm just going to vacuum well and then wash with Tide to remove any small amounts of grease that might have gotten in already.

Anybody have experience with this? Should I acid wash it even though it's new and a car has never been parked in it yet?

My understanding is that the acid wash is a necessary step, not entirely from a cleaning perspective but to help ensure the epoxy will adhere well to the concrete. It's akin to sanding before painting smooth surfaces to ensure good adhesion.

Regardless, I would follow the directions of the company that makes the epoxy. I have a friend that researches everything to the nth degree and his epoxy was coming off where their car tires sat within a year of application. What went wrong I cannot say but something went wrong.

Make sure you wash very well if you're going to use Tide. I think you would want to scuff the floor with a rotary machine and pad to give the epoxy something to stick to.
