I'm setting up my new EPOX M/B with a 1.33 ghz Athalon. Its powering on, but I'm not getting into bios and the fan (Volcano 2 plugged into cpu_fan is not turning). btw, my P/S is 300 watts. Any tips/ideas?

comes up 8:8 if I'm not mistaken. got it turned off right now, as I'm a little concerned the fan is not running (cpu). I'll fire it up and dbl-check. Thanks and what should I be looking for (LED-wise).

I think I've read somewhere that if you use too large of a fan and plug it into the MOBO directly that it can short out the connection. Instead try a 3-4 pin adapter and plug the cpu fan directly to the power supply.

Just want to see if anybody else would advise this. Nothing personal, Spoon, but that disclaimer is a little unsettling...(honest at least) :)

Using a 3-4pin adapter won't hurt anything. Try it if you have one. If not maybe see if the header is burned out by trying another HSF? Or trying your VII on another system?

I have the same setup mobo + fan and it all works plugged in to the CPU fan pins.

Actually this advice about using a 3 to 4 pin adapter was on the money. The fan's running like a finely tuned porsche. However, still no post as regards the memory. Maybe the period sans fan did for the chip. I've got an Athalon 1Ghz test/sacrifice chip to see if it's the CPU that's whacked.

Thanks for the input and further advice is welcomed and appreciated.

What 300w PSU do you have?.. for a 1.33ghz it should be high quality and AMD approved for that speed.

It's a Deer. Not sure if approved or not as haven't gone to AMD site. I have a 400 Watt PSU (Antec) that I purchased the other day and am thinking of putting that in after taking out the Deer. Does that sound about right, or is Deer (unbeknownst to me) a decent PSU in its own right (doubtful for $49, case 'n all)?

Hopefully you didn't fry your chip...
Doubt it's your PS... I use a 300W deer in similar setup..
Try reseating your ram..
