Epox 8RDA+ Sound

Hi,

Just upgraded to a Epox 8RDA+ M/B and Barton 2500xp, does anyone have any opinions as to if I should put my 'Soundblaster live Value' (not the 5.1) back in or stick with the 'Nforce 2' sound on the M/B. I'm guessing they'll sound much the same but was unsure which one would be less resource hungry and give me better framerates when gaming.

Thanks in advance

The nForce2 audio processor should be the more-powerful one that burdens the CPU less. If you do put the SB Live in there, I suggest putting it into the 4th PCI slot from the top and disabling the onboard MIDI, Gameport and audio processor, so they don't fight 😉

Welcome to the Forums, and have fun with your new 8RDA+ 😎 One quick piece of advice: if you have a case that features built-in front USB ports, make sure not to connect any of the case wiring to pin #10 on the motherboard's USB3 header (that's the leftmost pin on the bottom row, it's hot +5V for some reason 😛).

Hi, Thanks for replying.

Fun is one thing I aint having, it's the first time upgrading and it's been a bit of a trial, but I think I got things working okay now, although the CPU seems to be a little hotter than I had hoped. It's sitting about 49c now and I haven't even tested it with a game or anything. I'll try the Nforce 2 sound for a bit to see if I like it better but I dont think the subwoofer is working very well with less inputs into the M/b.

Thanks again

I liked the on-board sound on my 8RDA+, but since I'm oc'ing it, it had some serious problems. Finally put my Soundbastard Live 5.1 back in, as well as a NIC, and disabled the on-board devices.

Scotboy35,

I was wondering why the bass from my subwoofer seemed nonexistant until I found out that the subwoofer channel needs to be created in the nforce control panel. If your speaker system has discreet subwoofer inputs, make sure that you enable "Create LFE Channel" in the speaker setup page. This is expained on page 5-5 of the user manual.

When I got my Epox 8RDA+ mobo, I switched out some parts to make a second rig, including my SBLive 5.1 X-Gamer card. I use a Creative Labs 5.1 speaker setup on my game rig.

I haven't missed my SBLive card at all. BF1942 sounds just as explosive as ever!

I traded up exactly that - my rig had an SBLive! Value card before I got the Epox 8RDA+. The on-board sound I'd say is slightly better, but I'm sure an audiophile could point out the differences far better.

Yip I'm sticking with the onboard sound for a bit anyway.

Anyways couple of other problems with my upgrade, hard drive is listed as 'Generic IDE Disk type 47' under device manager instead of 'Quantum Fireball' which I'm guessing is Ultra DMA. If I enable the DMA mode in the bios, windows wont load cause I dont have a driver in windows for it (I think) On my old Asus A7V 133 M/B I just loaded the 'Promise Ultra 100' driver and that seemed to work okay, any ideas to what I have to do ???

I have

Primary IDE Controller (single fifo)
Secondary IDE Controller (single fifo)
Standard Dual PCI IDE controller

listed in the 'Hard disk controllers'

Another thing is that when I power off my Mouse and keyboard stay on, thats not happened before. I've messed about with all the Power Management options and cant get them to turn off without unplugging the power lead.

Any help would be great
