I had to RMA a bad stick of 512 mb PC3200 Buffalo memory to Newegg. They tell me it is out of stock and suggested they replace it with:

We have found an alternative item comparable
in specs to the original item, (item #20-145-026) which is a (Corsair
Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM).

Is this as good or better than my old Buffalo? I may overclock my XP2500+Barton to 200 FSB or better at some point.

I doubt either of those would clock higher than 200mhz. However, with Corsair you have a MUCH better chance of getting a good stick right out of the package. Buffalo SUCKS. I bought some for three systems based on the positive feedback here and at AMDMB and a third of the sticks produced errors in Memtest right off the bat. Newegg was great about replacing them, but damn it was over a month before I finally had RMAd my last POS Buffalo stick. I will not buy them again.

Well,

That will probably be good enough. FSB of 200 mhz should be within spec for PC3200 memory right? I don't think I'll push beyond that with my XP2500+Barton anyway.

BTW,

Newegg is willing to refund my $89, but I need the memory. I might be able to select other brands as long as the cost is less than what i paid. Right now the Cosair being offered is $75 shipped.

There is Geil, Mushkin etc

I, on the other hand have been building systems with Buffalo sticks for nearly a year now...not one bad stick...only the ones with Winbond chips tho...

I got my winbond chip buffalo 512 to 208 easy this week; the memory wasn't the limit at all. Probably other chips buffalo uses are not as good. People over at amdforums adore buffalo as I see it and I've used it in a couple of systems with very good results.

What chips were on the original buffalo that newegg is replacing?

Mine was a CH-5, apparently they are back in stock so I'll be getting same back.

I did notice Newegg is selling Buffalo with Micron and Samsun IC's now

EPoX Recommends the following brands of memory for our motherboards:

Corsair
Crucial
Kingston
OCZ
Gigaram

EPoX recommends that all memory be of the same manufacturer. If using memory with one of our Dual Channel DDR motherboards, it is recommended that the memory be purchased as a dual-channel pair such as Corsair TwinX, Kingston HyperX kit, etc
