i'm planning on buying this nforce2 board along with some dual 256 corsair modules and a 1700+ from SVC

but i have some questions about this board, would newegg be a good place to get a rev. 2 of this mobo and will i be able to get 200 fsb out of this board?

thanks

My friend just bought a 8RDA+ from newegg and it was NOT a rev 2.0. He got a rev 1.1 and I don't think he's getting to 200MHz fsb any time soon. You'd be better off buying it from somewhere that guarantee's the revision, like excaliberpc.

oh and i just looked, excaliberpc doesn't even carry epox mobos!!

>Some epox 8rda+'s have c1 stepping and most people can get 200mhz fsb right out of the box. newegg carries them i think, but you're not guaranteed a c1 stepping, unless you specify for one i guess... supposedly there are a few v2.0's of this board floating around, but thats news to me..

>8rda3+ fully supports 200mhz fsb (ultra 400 chipset), has dual lan, serial ata, and comes with some nifty lookin sky blue rounded cables
only problems so far are no soundstorm certification, and sata problems... otherwise it looks like an alright board. more info here...

As with any stepping issue with newegg, getting a c1/v2.0 is a gamble.
I got one on a refurb after a v1.1 board died on me. I wouldn't take the gamble.
However I just ordered another 8rda+ and got C1 stepping...

the 8rda3+ is a different mobo....

because the rev 2.0 boards are hard to come by.. ( i dunno of any US vendor that has them) you're fine getting a rev 1.1 8rda+... like someone mentioned the rev 1.1 are now shipping with the c1 stepping nb and these are allowing people to hit 200 mhz w/o any mods...

so if i were you just get a 8rda+ rev 1.1 or the new 8rda3+... both are GREAT boards... the 3+ just has a lot of bells and whistles that most people may not need..

^ what are your guys' thoughts about this? my next upgrade i want to do as cheaply as i can but one of my requirements is to have an overclocked 1700+ at 200 FSB, would the 8RDA+ (probably bought from newegg) not be able to do this?

Baboonguy, the 8RDA+ is a great buy, and it will do the job for ya!

I got mine from MWave about 2 months ago, and it came with the A1/C1 NB. It's running at 210FSB without any mods, and could probably go higher. Although the Rev 2.0 has been announced, it's not available anywhere in the USA yet.

The 8RDA3+ is a different board, which, as Shimmi said, has some features which aren't found on the 8RDA+. It has SATA, it has voltage adjustment for the MB (NOT found on the 8RDA+...this is why people did all the 'voltage mods' on the older boards..), and the onboard sound is not considered as good as the 8RDA+.

At the rate the 8RDA+ has been selling, if you bought one from NewEgg you chances of getting the A1 chipset are virtually 100% unless you bought a refurb. They are selling all the boards they can get their hands on, which means no "old" stock (with older chipsets). They are also great about RMA's if you run into a problem.

all NEWER 8rda+'s have C1 northbridges...the C1 northbridge is GARUNTEED to do 200 FSB....not by epox though because they don't tell you tthat....b ut it is known that a C1 stepping can get to 200FSB no sweat

Yep what he said.

In fact, in recent months, I haven't heard of anyone that bought the 8RDA+ from Newegg that did not get the C1 stepping m/b.

got my 8rda+ a week ago from newegg, its C1/A1.

If you want the greatest stability @ above 200mhz, seriously consider getting a copper Vantec Iceberq (sp) from newegg or SVC ( $9.95) for your northbridge. Some active cooling will only help! Oh yeah, and good ram

have fun

nonnono that is the northbridge stepping IIRC and i don't think you want that

a1/c1 is better

I've set up 2 of these...
one (mine) is using a passive zalman and is stable at 215 (I haven't tried higher)
The other did 220 stable with the stock heatsink and it wasn't uncomfortably hot to the touch.

Hey all, I just got this board and an XP 2100+ JIUHB 0308 dropped off from newegg on thursday and I wanted to know how I can tell what stepping the mobo is. It says its a revision 1.1 on the board but that's all I could see. In the bios 200 fsb is selectable. Also with this prossesor what voltage should I try running to get stable at a 166 fsb? Right now if I set it higher than 133 my box will blackscreen and hang right after my vid card info shows up. This is my 1st attempt at overclocking and I'm obviously kind of lost here. I'm running 2x256 samsung pc2700 which I'm assuming will be OK for this level of over clock, but again I'm a noob at this so any suggestions would be appriciated. Cheers,
Shawn

try change the FSB option and memory to 'expert', then try to change your fsb higher than 133 while the ram sticks on 133 (83% ?) on CL2.5
don't change the voltage yet.

Thanks NEVERwinter, I'll give that a try. Now I'm assuming that I'll only have to raise the voltage if my box isn't stable @ that speed? Do I increase in 1/4 volt increments? Thanks again. Cheers,
Shawn
