I have just upgraded my CPU to a 2500+ on my 8rda+ mobo. The upgrade worked fine at first, but then I decided to have a try at some overclocking. It went OK up to 166@12.5 - 1.8 volts, but when I tried 166@13 it would not post. No problem I thought I will just reset the cmos and all should be OK.

Not so unfortunately, the problem I have now is that the bios appears to lose its settings and I am having lockups when Windows starts. My suspicion is that my bios may be corrupt - any ideas anyone??

BTW I am using the 1/29 bios, which I flashed soon after I installed the MOBO, that was about 4 months ago and all was OK till now - should I flash a newer bios and if so which one is the most stable/problem free etc ??

Thanks

For some reason, I can't select 13x166MHz either on my system (same as yours). 12.5x166 is fine but 13 is a no go. I get a restart with the system FSB set to 100MHz. I think the 13x multiplier on the Barton 2500+ is locked but that is only my guess.

And I do think you should update your BIOS. the 3609 version is working great on my 8RDA+ with a 2500+ and 1GB of HyperX PC2700 in DCDDR mode. Give it a shot and see if your problems persist. If it does, you might have to flatten C:\ and reinstall windows. :(

Thanks for the quick answer Megatomic, I will try the 3609 bios to see if that helps, I am not sure about the problems with the 13X multiplier. I also have PC2700 ram which does not O/C very well, so I was hoping to use only the mutipliers, but it looks as though 12.5X is about the limit.

BTW I am using the 1/29 bios

This is a corrupt bios and 9 out of ten people who flash back to this bios end up with a corrupt / dead mobo, Epox is aware of this!

Thanks for the help, I flashed the 3609 bios successfully and all works OK, overall the system appears to be more stable. Scandisk fixed my Win XP issues - luckily.

At this stage I am leaving my 2500+ O/C to 2800+ (166@12.5).

I will intend to purchase some decent ram soon, so then I can try to increase my FSB, hopefully without any of the previous problems.

Thanks Again
