Epox 8RDA+ : anyone else notice that the IDE sockets are WAY down there?

And that it's a tough reach to stretch an IDE cable from up in the CDRW/DVD rom area down to the connectors?

I was planning on putting my HD and DVD rom on the same IDE channel. But the cable isn't long enough to connect the two and still reach the IDE connectors. 🙂

Luckily, I have a Promise TX2 Ultra 100 IDE card lying around. I'm using that for my CDRW. Shouldn't be a problem, but I'll find out tonight.

That's strange Michael. I am using a Chieftec Dragon case (Antec 1040 clone) and I have no problem connecting my DVD and CDRW to the secondary IDE. I do have rounded cables though, but they are the standard 18in long. I would highly suggest just getting a 24" IDE cable before I would use a Promise card just for a CDRW...

Edit:

I would suggest getting something like this to solve your problem. It looks good and is very reasonably priced. In this day and age, I can't see the point in using those standard flat IDE ribbon cables. I must have a million of those things laying around....

MichaelD, I had the same issues. I had a full-tower case and had my two hard drives in cooling bays all the way up-top, the IDE cables didn't reach. I ended up just moving the bays to the bottom two 5.25" slots - I didn't feel like buying new cables, though, the rounded ones are getting pretty cheap these days.

Yes, i've had the same problem. Also you don't even get the second IDE cable. I used one that was new from some of my leftovers, and luckily after a day or two of case heat all the kinks worked-out and I gained several milimeters in length 🙂

Also, anyone else notice that when you select 167MHz fsb, that the mem bus speed won't follow and stay's at 166MHz? And there is no USB mouse support in Safe Mode.

But of course I only have the 8RDA version.

Yeah, I'm working the issue. I will probably move my HD right under the floppy...the cable should reach. I like to keep the HDs in the drive cage w/the fan mounted in it, for obvious reasons. I'll move it. I don't like the idea of having my DVD and CDRW on the same channel anyway. Thanks guys. 🙂
