Epox 8KTA3 & old HD not booting

Hi:
I'm having a problem with my new setup. Got a new case, 8KTA3, Athlon 850 & 256MB RAM. I'm planning to move my current HD & video card over when I'm happy with my planned new configuration (W98/2K/Linux). So I thought I'd work out the install quirks on an old HD so I can still use my old machine. Problem is the old Seagate 2Gb I'm using doesn't want to boot. I can fdisk & format it ok ( with /s), & it's jumpered correctly (one drive only), but when I try to boot it I just get a string of ones & zeros like so: 10 10 10 10... scrolling forever. I'm guessing it's a problem with the ATA/100, but I can't see any way to change it in the BIOS. I have tried using both the 100 cable & an old style cable. Anyone got any ideas or am I SOL with this old drive?
Thanks,
Bobby

Usually that occurs if the MBR isn't good or the actual system files are borked.

I've had that happen twice on older systems. FDISK /mbr and sys fixed them.

Yup, /mbr did the trick. Thanks a bunch! I haven't used /mbr for years...
