EPoX 8KHA+ won't boot -- C1 error

I've had an EPoX 8KHA+ motherboard with Athlon XP 1800+ processor for about 10 months now and everything had been fine until the fan on my chipset started making noises. I got another from Radio Shack and replaced it but when I try to boot all I get are steady beeps and a C1 error on the motherboard LED. C1 is supposed to be a memory problem, but I didn't touch the RAM. I cleared the CMOS, but no go. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I have been hearing this situation lately and almost always with the 8KHA+.
I would go back to square 1. Only memory, CPU and video card and see if you can get by C1.

Sorry, but I don't even know what a fan header is. I just removed the 4 screws from the 40mm chipset fan and replaced it with the same size fan and plugged the 2-wire connector into the same "FAN4" connector that the previous fan was connected to. The good news is that the fan doesn't make the noise anymore. The bad news is that the computer still will not boot. I've taken out all cards but my video card, disconnected the FDD and IDE connectors from the MB, disconnected the power from the hard drive, CD-ROM, and floppy, and tried each of my two PC2100 DIMMs separately in each of the three DIMM slots (6 combinations), but still get the steady beeps and the C1 error when I try to boot.

Have you checked the beep codes? You may also want to double check that your video card is seated properly. Other than that I am stumped.

Isn't C1 the memory error code? I have an 8RDA+ and the system always fails to boot with 2 sticks of memory installed. (256MB Crucial on DIMM 1, 512MB Crucial on DIMM2)

Try this, check the FSB jumper on the 8KHA+ board is set at 133mhz FSB and not 100mhz FSB,this can give the" C1 error " problem if the only single jumper for FSB on the board is set wrong.

You can also try a single ram is all the different ram slots as well, make sure it`s firmly seated,I`ve known it to take 10 or 12 attempts to get it seated before working right .

You could also take the CMOS battery out for a few hours, that`ll make sure it`s cleared when you put it back in.

There are no special beep codes, just a steady beep about every 2 seconds. The jumpers have been working fine for 10 months the way they've been set, so I don't think changing them will help any. I did take the battery out for a couple hours to make sure the CMOS was cleared, but no change in result. The video card is seated well, but even with it out I can't get past the C1 error. I've tried it with just one stick of memory in all 3 slots, but no good.
