Epox 8KHA+ with PCI second video freezes intermittently

Any tips as to why this may be happening, and how to stop it? I'm very adamant about using my dual-monitors via an AGP and PCI card. When I installed the board and Win2k, the system would freeze up sometimes when moving things around or accessing the PCI video. I reinstalled WinXP hoping to solve the problem, but it's still there. The alternative is to switch back to a P3 setup, which I may do if things do turn my way.

Tips appreciated, thanks in advance.

Have you checked your bios settings to make sure that agp is selected for "initial display first"? IT should be under the "integrated peripherals" header.

Yes. It initializes fine, and it runs fine. The problem comes when something is moving or changing on the screen. Dragging my Inbox window around, clicking a "background" application to the foreground, etc. Windows successfully identifies the G200 as my secondary.

The drivers built into WinXp for the G200 may be a bit old.

I would goto the Matrox website and check there for new drivers. If this doesn't work, there is a forum on the matrox website that I found very useful in the past.

I don't know if it will help.... but for your information.. some 8KHA+ motherboards have problems with their BIOS that were manufactured with the letter "K" /"L" (i mnot sure) Check with pcnuts.com. they have one article about this. I have 8KHA motherboard and i was facing problems with it (one of which is same as yours)... I rested the bios settings (as told by the 8kha tech supp) and evrything is working fine.. so try to read the article on pcnuts.com..get the letter info on your BIOS and call EPOX. If it is the BIOS problem... they will send you a new BIOS :)
