EPoX 8KHA+ North Bridge Fan Death

The fan on my north bridge was making strange noises. So, I popped open the case, removed the fan, cleaned the case of dust (The fan and heatsink on the NB of course too), and lubed up the fan bearings. This stopped the noise for a few weeks. Once it came back, it started getting progressively worse.

So, I just removed the fan and called it a day. Has anyone tried running this motherboard with nothing more than the 1/16" heatsink sitting on the chipset? So far, my system seems fine, but I just did it maybe 20 minutes ago. I'm not overclocking the FSB.

I do have a much bigger heatsink that I could use, but I can't figure out how the Hell to get the stock one off!

The heatsink by itself is fine. I'm running one in my Dad's PC without the fan and it's been stable (not counting crappy VIA drivers) for over a month.

I had to take the fan off the north bridge to get my cpu heatsink on there. It works fine without it.

The northbridge fan on my Epox 8KHA+ also died after making weird noises, anyway I just put a new fan on (think it`s 40mm size).

The fan on my 8KHA (no +) quit a year and a half ago. The northbridge gets some breeze from the cpu fan and nothing awful has happened - even during hot summer weather. I'd say just ignore it. However, EPOX might send you one if you asked.
